We are gathering our resources together to start on a major new project; developing the football pitch and surrounding area beside Iochdar School. So far, we have agreed to lease the land from the owners. We have also appointed some professional help to draw up plans and advise us about tendering for the work. We have also produced a project brief, which is here.
The playground and playing field improvements at Iochdar School were completed in 2008, and we are in a period of letting the work settle in. This gives us an opportunity to see how children use the facilities, to sort out any problems and to think about how we can continue to keep the facilities fresh and exciting. There have been probelms with inadequate drainage at the bottom of the access footpath, and the swings and roundabout area have been flooding and getting very muddy. We are looking at ways of remedying this. The surface around the round-about is being improved, and additional drainage is being put in place. We are also looking at adding a climbing frame: the teenage shelter has rather suffered from being clambered on.
Children in Need have been a huge support for this project, and without their encouragement and early commitment of funds, we would not have managed to get so far. For more information, please take a look at the playground and environmental improvements page.

Another ongoing project, which has been less high profile, has been to compile a list of local walks. We have been very fortunate to get permission to republish a series of walks from Martin Margulies, which originally appeared in am paipear This will soon become a more vibrant project; we have a new millenium volunteer, who will be helping us keep the site up-to-date. Hopefully, she will also have lots of suggestions about improvements, and might even be able to research some walks of her own. You can check on the walks page here
